“Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, “Do it again”; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, “Do it again” to the sun; and every evening, “Do it again” to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.”

He looks at me boredly and thinks to himself…. Ever get that vibe from a cat? There’s a poem by TS Eliot that suggests all cats have 3 names: the dignified name, the everyday name (your Mozart AKA Fur Face for example) and then thirdly, says the poem:
“…the name that you will never guess. the name that no human research can discover -but the cat himself knows, and will never confess. when you notice a cat in profound meditation, the reason, I tell you is always the same. his mind is engaged in rapt contemplation of the thought of the thought of the thought of his name.”
Keep guessing darling, his eyes tease. Then his luxury stride carries him away until further notice.
As I was rushing upstairs to dive into a batch of editing this morning, I passed the window and caught a glimpse of the scenery outside. I had to pause. It was as if the sun had tossed confetti into the fields! Bejeweled it lay before me. Wow. I plonked down the cup of coffee in my hand and got my camera. Twenty minutes later I was back. The coffee was cold, but I had my fix.
Frida Kahlo said that she painted flowers so they will not die. I totally get that. It’s for exactly the same reason we take photos, isn’t it? But this morning I didn’t photograph anything for the sake of keeping it. I took these photos to celebrate the fact that new, fresh, unique beauty gets dashed out every morning. Today’s splendour can blow us away, then blow away. Tomorrow will come with a fresh new set. A “new day.” And to think, we get one every. single. morning we open our eyes and yawn. I just love it! And man, do I need it!
Lamentations 3:23 ” … his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.”
